Program Director:
Prof Ling SHI, Professor of Electronic and Computer Engineering

At a fundamental level, the increasing speed at which we can acquire, interpret, and take action based on information impacts on many of the changes we are observing in the modern world. Much of this increased speed is due to advances in Electronic Engineering.

The Master of Science (MSc) Program in Electronic Engineering brings students the range of technologies which are changing the way we work and interact in an increasingly interconnected world. Students will master: (i) advances in networking, communication, photonics and display technologies, which increase the speed of information transmission and improve our access to information; (ii) advances in signal processing and pattern recognition, which enable computers to automatically inspect the quality of production lines, respond to natural human input, or improve medical diagnostic technology; (iii) advances in automation and control, which enable rapid reconfiguration of production lines in response to market changes; and (iv) advances in chip design and computer architecture that power these technologies.

The program is deliberately broad based to provide a balanced view of the state of the art for maximum flexibility. Students may tailor their program to their unique interests.

On successful completion of the program, graduates will be able to:

  1. Examine and formulate electronic engineering problems in their fields of study;
  2. Integrate theoretical principles and practical skills to solve electronic engineering problems in their fields of study;
  3. Communicate effectively in their fields of study through writing and discussions with other professionals; and
  4. Interpret scientific literature and contemporary innovations in multiple fields of electronic engineering.
