Program Director:
Prof I-Ming HSING, Professor of Chemical and Biological Engineering

Biomolecular engineering involves molecular-level design and engineering of nature derived and artificial materials and devices for applications in areas such as drug delivery, therapeutics, biosensing, point-of-care diagnostics, synthetic and systems biology, and omics technology. Health informatics combines skills from mathematics, data sciences, and computer science to acquire, process, and analyze health-related data for optimal decision making. The program integrates biomolecular engineering and health informatics so that students will be uniquely prepared for career opportunities in these fields.

On successful completion of the program, graduates will be able to:

  1. Apply knowledge in biomolecular engineering and health informatics and their underlying disciplines in a wide range of settings;
  2. Develop methods for the acquisition, processing, and analytics of data from healthcare applications;
  3. Identify, formulate, and solve engineering problems in the realm of biomolecular engineering and health informatics;
  4. Design and analyze products in the realm of biomolecular engineering and health informatics to meet societal needs;
  5. Communicate clearly and concisely both in writing and orally; and
  6. Apply critical thinking through independent thought and informed judgement, and develop creative and innovative solutions.
