Undergraduate Courses 2023-24

This course will increase students’ awareness of their well-being and help them build habits for personal and interpersonal development. It also aims to foster their identity and confidence as students at HKUST. Lectures will provide the facts and the scientific bases of well-being. Experiential workshops will provide opportunities to assess and practise wellness skills (physical, emotional and social). Students will bring knowledge and skills together through journaling, reflecting on how they can integrate knowledge and practices into their lives, as well as promote them to others. In smaller class groups called ‘communities’, students will share their journaling. They will also work in their communities on a project to devise wellness initiatives for a specified group, for example, residents of a student hall.

This course provides an introduction to critical thinking and data literacy. Students will be equipped with critical tools to analyse problems of reasoning, evaluate the truthfulness of evidence, examine the fallacies of thinking, as well as the ability to construct valid arguments and reasonable solutions for their personal and professional life.

This special topics course will help students to gain a better understanding on the topics related to their interdisciplinary studies. A range of professional activities are eligible for study, including seminars/ lectures, professional activities/ meetings, journal readings or structured readings. May be repeated for credits if different topics are taken. May be graded by letter, P/F or DI/PA/F for different offerings.

This course aims to provide students with real-life, hands-on learning and teaching experience. Students will take part in lesson preparation, actual teaching and reflection session. Training on teaching skills and consultation with faculty will be provided to ensure the quality of students’ teaching.

This course intends to enhance students’ career readiness by participating in a series of career workshops, taking up a full-time internship and engaging in post-internship self-reflection. Also, students will attend a conference upon internship completion to share their experience and get insights and feedback from senior business executives, career coaches, and professors. Students will learn more about themselves, important job-hunting skills and how to transition into being a professional smoothly. Relevant one-on-one career coaching sessions are also available to guide students to identify a career suiting their interests and passions. For Year 2 or above students. Graded PP, P or F.
