- FYTG 5001Technology, Leadership and Entrepreneurship[4-0-0:4]DescriptionThis course will provide a common level of knowledge among students on topics in technology innovation management, leadership and entrepreneurship. Particularly, the course examines how the technology innovation process works; how to lead and manage innovation processes and how to create an environment that rewards innovation and entrepreneurship.
- FYTG 5002Humanities and Leadership[1-0-0:1]DescriptionThis course is designed to enhance students' ability to comprehend their changing societal and cultural environments from perspectives derived from humanities scholarship. The major format of teaching is a series of lectures which engage students in the reading and discussion of selected texts rich in humanistic material. The purpose of the course is to prepare students to become humanistic leaders in technology.
- FYTG 5100Advanced Topics of Internet of Things[3-0-0:3]DescriptionThe Internet of Things (IoT) refers to uniquely identifiable objects (Things) and their virtual representations in an Internet-like structure. IoT has become an extremely hot and important topic in recent years. The concept of the IoT provides opportunities for numerous industries and domains including building management, healthcare, traffic control and smart grid (e.g., for energy). This course will particularly focus on RFID, sensor, infrastructure support, upper layer enabling applications, etc.
- FYTG 5101Data-Driven Processing[3-0-0:3]DescriptionThis course discusses the advanced principles for data driven processing or data science, mainly focusing on unstructured and heterogeneous data. Storage structures; indexing techniques; query optimization methods, key word search, data quality, and introduction to advanced data mining techniques and time series data analysis will be addressed in the course.
- FYTG 5201Process Control, Optimization and Design[3-0-0:3]DescriptionThe course allows the students to master the advanced control, optimization and design techniques for applications in manufacturing processes, the computer control and the process identification and optimization. Introduction to Model Predictive Control, Fuzzy control, and Neural Network control.
- FYTG 5300Atmosphere Ocean Environmental Monitoring and Analysis[3-0-0:3]DescriptionThis course is intended to provide fundamental for our understanding of the current environmental conditions, identification of existing pollution sources, assessment of potential impact of new sources, and evaluation of potential benefits of different environmental control policies. The course is important to determine the environmental effects of human activities and to increase understanding of cause effect relationships between human activity and environmental change.
- FYTG 5311Electrochemical Energy Conversion and Storage[3-0-0:3]DescriptionThe course starts by reviewing the fundamentals of the electrochemistry, followed by analyzing the principles of the devices for electrochemical energy conversion and storage such as fuel cells and batteries. The advances of research, development and application of typical devices for electrochemical energy conversion and storage will be discussed.
- FYTG 5412Advanced Engineering Materials[3-0-0:3]Exclusion(s)MESF 5412 (prior to 2016-17)DescriptionIntroduction to updated knowledge and applications of advanced engineering materials and modern materials management concepts, including properties and applications, processing-microstructure-property relationships of engineering materials; planning and scheduling of materials purchasing, storage and inventory; materials quality control management; materials supply and just-in time manufacturing.
- FYTG 6100Practical Training[1 credit]DescriptionThis course is designed to let students practice their chosen concentration, increase their exposures with FYTRI research centers and/or industries in the mainland, and allow the students to have a deeper understanding of the technology and development issues they are going to face in the relevant industries. Graded PP, P or F.
